Bathtub is a type of drip filtering.

Origins
First developed by Momotaro Japanese Koi farm, the bath tub tries to simulate the natural way of filtering water. Similar to the mountain stream where water flows over the rocks.
Biofilms and algae grow on rocks and eat nutrients in rivers, which essentially filter water. In the case of Bakki bath, ceramics are placed on a tray and water is pumped to the top of the filter and drips through the media, eventually flowing back into the pool.
Momotaro Koi Farms develops a shower tub with stainless steel trays. Since then many "bakki shower" has been designed with variations on them. Plastic boxes and fiberglass or crate have been used successfully.
In all its simplicity there is much higher chemistry going on between bio films and water columns. Biochemistry is better described in this book: Biology of the nitrogen cycle By Hermann Bothe, Stuart John Ferguson, William Edward Newton

Benefits
The advantages of this type of filtering are:
- Nitrogen waste conversion
- From toxic gas CO 2 maintains pH
- Oxygen reintroduced
This offensive method of gassing and aeration is widely used in cultivation.
Media selection filter
Filter media options vary widely. Each filter media has different properties and different performance. Here are some photos of different types:
