Overview
Prior to the band's conception, Garnet's brother and Snow Keim had been raving across the country writing music in the late 1990s, eventually taking them to Seattle, Washington. The band was formed in 2001 when the Keim brothers met their future drummer, Bob Husak, at a local coffee shop in Seattle (Tully's). Named after the dream that bassist Snow Keim was involved in a meeting with 18th-century English poet William Blake at a metal shop, The Blakes moved to Los Angeles and began their musical career, playing live and for almost two years at Days Inn Hotel.. The band released a series of self-released EPs and eventually moved back to Seattle. In 2005, The Blakes gained huge exposure from their fourth release, Little Whispers, when Seattle's KEXP radio station began playing and promoting their music. In 2006, the band released their self-titled LP and toured extensively. The following year, the band signed a contract with the independent Seattle Light In the Attic label. In 2007 on their new label, the band released EP, and then remixed (Martin Feveyear) remastered and republished The Blakes. 2007 and 2008 found international band tours playing prestigious venues such as Le Bataclan and L'Olympia as well as international festivals Lollapalooza, Bumbershoot, Sasquatch, Eurockà © ne ennes, and more. In 2009, The Blakes released two independent releases: Lights On EP (limited jump from silk screened director) and LP's Souvenir of 17 tracks quickly pulled KEXP attention and receive heavy rotation. At this time, the band embarked on a three-month tour of the US. Also in 2009, Keim Brothers collaborated with producer Brian Brown and created the BEADS project. Recording of acoustic, psychedelic music entitled No One Knows . Most of the year 2010 was spent in the studio, recording what should be a follow-up of Souvenir . The record was called Low Low, but after completion and a six-week US tour, all but two songs were canceled by the band: "Surf's Up" and "Sea Fishing". 2011 brings yet another record of BEADS Thin Air the most extensive exploration of the band's musical composition to date. Also, during this time the band signed publishing contracts around the world with Memory Lane Music Group. The summer of 2011, the band returned to the studio writing, recording and producing for what would become The Blakes' "Art of Losses" LP, due out July 24, 2012. Maps The Blakes
