    • A tailor is someone who sews stitches, or in other words, machine operators in factories who may not have the skills to make garments from scratch or to adapt them to the original body. This term is not a synonym for tailor . Before the Industrial Revolution, a tailor made a hand gesture, especially under a blackout system. The old variant is seamster and sempstress .
    • Sewist is a relatively new term, combining the words "sewing" and "artist", to describe someone who creates stitched artwork, which can include clothing or other items made with stitched elements.
