The Ghetto Film Project is a non-governmental organization in Kampala, Uganda that uses films to rehabilitate, empower, mentor and tell the story of Kampala slums. The company was founded on July 20, 2013 by Uganda filmmaker George Stanley Nsamba in Naguru, a slum in Kampala. In 2013, following its rapidly growing interest in the Ugandan film industry, Nsamba decided to set up an organization that will help guide and empower youth in communities once known as famous children when growing up. The organization is made up mostly of youth and children aged between 3 and 15 years and some women from the community.

Founded

The project was founded in 2013 on July 20 by George Stanley Nsamba in Naguru, a famous slum area where it grew. On the opening day, they managed to gather more than 60 youth from the slums and 80 children and women who will train them for 10 months in various activities and fields. Women were given skills in making paper and basket beads, the youth had scriptwriting, cinematography, editing, directing and producing classes while the children had painting and drawing classes every Saturday at Naguru Katali primary school.

Program

Ã, Â ° Youth Films Program Under the youth film program, the youth enrolled in the project have classes in Cinematography, photography, scriptwriting, editing, acting, directing and production every Saturday. Here the class is taught both theoretically and practically. From this project has been prepared youth who have successfully excelled in various industries that have Jean Jovitah Kobusingye and Malcolm Kawooya in the hit series NTV Uganda The Hostel while Moses Ssemanda has become one of the most valuable photographer.

Ã, Â ° Kids Of Art This program empowers children with visual art skills to tell stories. Children are taught art and painting as a way of equipping them with practical skills and also offering psycho-social.

Ã, Â ° Sports Children are taught a different sport dubbed as "sport for the rich" like baseball, lacrosse and chess to straighten their mindset toward dreams beyond their current living conditions.

Ã, Â ° Mentor-ship Youth under this project are required to take the 4 children they mentor. Given the success that these young people enjoyed as poets, rapper, actors and models, these kids looked at them and they used their skills and talents to empower the little one. Currently Immaculate Ijang an actress in Silent Depression's latest film project is among 21 contestants competing for the Miss Uganda 2015 crown that sends positive messages to small children.
