The Irish Penal Rosary (Irish: An PaidrÃÆ'n Beag ) is a decade-old rosary used during a sentence in Ireland, when Roman Catholic and religious objects are forbidden. This version of Rosario is easy to hide, allowing devout Roman Catholics to pray with less fear to be detected.

Description
The cross has various symbols of Passion: a hammer for the nail of the cross; hello to the Crown of Thorns; the jug representing the Last Supper; ropes for binding that remember Scourging in Pilar; the spear used at Calvary; cock and pot, which depicts the early apocryphal legend associated with Judas the traitor, and the roasted chicken who suddenly revived and crowed (thus foretelling the Resurrection); and three nails used for the cross. Small marks along the sides of the corpus show stairs, both for the stairs used in crucifixion or metaphor to ascend to heaven.

Usage
The cross is hidden inside the arm or the palm of the hand, while the ring is placed on the thumb when the first decade of the rosary is read. The ring is then placed on the next finger when the next decade is spoken and so on for up to five decades.
