Teri Greeves was born in Wind River Reservation in Wyoming in 1970 and of Italian-American and Comanche descendants. His mother, Jeri Ah-be-hill, had a trading post on the reservation, while Greeves grew up. "By repeating to the customer what I heard him say when he sold and educated the public," Teri said, "I unknowingly gained a broad knowledge of beadwork different from the tribes around the US." Greeves took beadwork at the age of eight. Although he was primarily self-taught, he also received instructions from Zeedora Enos (Shoshone) and Calvin Magpie (Cheyenne). Greeves attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies in 1995. He also studied at St. John's College in 1988 and Cabrillo College in 1993.

Artwork

Greeves uses a variety of beadwork techniques in his art. She uses looms for beaded bracelets. His larger pictorial work involves beads stitched into the deerhide-tanned brain, which he often climbs onto wood or other structures. For example, he made a parade to hide scene stretching over an antique umbrella in his winning Best of Show in Indian Market Santa Fe 1999. He sought to illustrate Kiowa's reality and oral history, his own life experience, and pop imagery. He is widely known for his tennis beaded shoes, which feature pictorial elements on a dense background and background stitches. His humor is proven throughout his work.

Regarding his tribal history, Greeves said, "Some time ago, a Kiowa woman brought beads to her Kiowa people, forced to express herself and her experience as a Kiowa woman in her day. My grandmother was a hard worker. He was also forced to express himself and his experience as a living Kiowa... I had to express myself and my experience as the twenty-first century Kiowa, and I did, like all the unknown artists before me, through the beadwork. "
