Peranakan Cut Bean (Peranakan term is a cut Manek) is a faceted glass bead used by Peranakan women to make Peranakan beads and other Peranakan artifacts such as wedding veils, handbags, belts, tapestries, pockets, etc.

The bead used in the past is a very small multi-faceted glass bead from Europe. For beaded slippers, fine beads and facets are used to form a pattern.

Currently, the size of the beads commonly used for Peranakan beads is size 15 to 18 (the larger the size, the smaller the beads).

Modern day-to-day sequins are single-faceted seed beads, commonly referred to as charlotte beads or 'charlottes'. These beads are usually from Czech Republic.
