Plot

The movie begins with a young girl who was rescued from a burning hospital. A fireman asks her if her mother is still inside, which makes her speechless.

Meanwhile, Shelley, a student, sits outside near a koi pond in a Japanese-style house and after chatting over the phone with Leann, she hears her cat make strange noises. Shelley walks towards her but after a few seconds, she finds it standing on the other side of the pool. Puzzled by the situation, he suddenly heard a strange murmuring in the pond and out of nowhere, a hand appeared and dragged Shelley into the pool, drowning it. The red candy then appears on the surface and proceeds the same hand to drag the cat and drown it as well.

A few weeks later, Beth Raymond's students were talking to his friend, Leann, who attended Shelley's funeral. Leann's cell phone rings with a ring tone like ninabobokan, and says it's from Shelley. Leann listened to the voicemail, who shouted to himself. Voice messages dated three days in the future. Leann began to experience hallucinations that made him even more anxious. As she walked home a few minutes before her voicemail, she called Beth. Beth runs to get Leann, but unfortunately, she arrives at the same time where Leann accidentally fell off the bridge and landed on the speeding train, killing her. A red candy appeared from his mouth and Leann's hand called an unknown number on his phone.

At the funeral of Leann, Beth's roommate, Taylor, was talking about Shelley receiving a strange voice message before her death, just like Leann had. Brian, Leann's ex-boyfriend, began to see disturbing appearances, and left the funeral in a hurry. Beth catches Brian outside the coffeehouse and Brian shows him the voicemail he received the night Leann died, from Leann's phone. Beth noticed voicemail just a few seconds away. The explosion at a nearby construction site sent rebar through Brian's body. Similar to Leann, Brian coughs red hard candy and faints, as Beth stares in horror.

When Beth got home, Taylor, desperate, waited for her. Taylor says he knows he's next, even though he has not received a voicemail. Beth assures her that it will not happen, and takes the battery from both of their phones to make sure they can not receive the call. That night, Beth and Taylor were awakened by a luminary ring tone coming from Taylor's cordless battery. Despite not having a power source, Taylor's mobile screen featured her death video message, dated two days in the future.

The next morning, Andrews visits Beth, saying that his sister is the one who called Shelley, even though his sister died at the time of the call. He also said he was searching for an abandoned voicemail on his sister's phone and would find out more about the person who sent him, Marie Layton. Andrews went through a local autopsy report, and found a report for Ellie Layton, Marie's eldest daughter, who died of an asthma attack. They found a record for a hospital visit to Ellie and Laurel, who was Ellie's sister. Laurel is often hurt, which causes Beth to suspect abuse from her mother. As Taylor approaches, Beth races with him, and sees Taylor choked to death by an invisible force. Hard red candy fell from his mouth. Suddenly, Beth's phone starts ringing and she finds a dated note for tomorrow. In an effort to save herself, Beth decides to find out more about the hospital fires alone.

At the hospital and in less than 30 minutes, Beth was scared by the various sightings. He ran to Andrews, and both tried to escape from the hospital. They were then separated and Beth found the crawl space. She found Marie's body, burned to death and held the phone. At the time of Beth's death, Marie's corpse struck her with tears. Then it was revealed that Marie was really protecting Beth, not trying to hurt her. Remarkably, Beth survived her expected death.

While visiting Laurel, Andrews went to his room and found a teddy bear with a video disc on his back. The disc is a video of the camera Marie hid to monitor Laurel and Ellie. The disc indicated that Ellie cut Laurel's arm with a butcher knife. Marie had come in and realized that the harassment she blamed her all along was Ellie. He then went to take Laurel to the hospital, locking Ellie in the bedroom. Ellie suffered an asthma attack and died while pressing her mother's cell, making Marie the first real victim of a curse when she died in a hospital fire after leaving the room. Laurel tells Andrews that even though Ellie hurt her, she always gives her a hard red candy, which is found in the mouths of all the victims. Andrews's phone started ringing with a voice mail dated 30 minutes later.

Andrews realizes that the power behind the murder is Ellie, and the race to Beth. After he arrived at his house, they both heard a knock on the door. When Andrews looked through the peephole, the knife stabbed and killed him. Ellie's spirit emerges and reaches out to kill Beth. Marie's spirits then appeared and grabbed Ellie, rescuing Beth again. Red candy spilled from Andrews's mouth and his cell started calling his own number, revealing that Ellie's ghost was still out there, and more people would die.
