Iria: Zeiram the Animation ( ????? ??????????? , IRIA Zeiramu Ji Anim? shon ) is an original six-episode video animation series (OVA) produced by Ashi Productions and directed by Tetsur? Amino. The series serves as a prequel for the original live action film Zeiram , which occurred several years earlier when the female protagonist Iria prize hunter was still a beginner and detailed the events surrounding her first encounter with the unstoppable Zeiram. This somewhat contradicts the films, which implies that Iria's first encounter with Zeiram was in the first film.

Video game version
IRIA is adapted into a Japanese-only video game for Super Famicom called Hyper Iria , although it does not seem to follow the OVA storyline very closely. Iria also appears as a main character on Zeiram Zone for the PlayStation.
Reception
Helen McCarthy in 500 Essential Anime Movies called the anime "a really good science fiction", praised the character's design. He stated that "the world feels really futuristic and foreign, the sequence of actions convincing, the music is good, and the conspiracy plot that appears slowly is the icing on the cake."
