A bead is a woodworking decorative treatment applied to various elements of wood furniture, boxes and other items.
Beads are usually round to square edges to soften edges and provide protection against cleavage. The beads can be simple round shape, or more complex patterns.
Beads can be made with electrical routers, special plane prints or scratches. The beads are usually cut straight to the edge of the item where the bead is being applied. However, the beads applied over the grain are usually cut into separate pieces which are then mounted in position.
Beads are also important design elements behind wood, ring shape or convex curves cut into pieces by using chisels or tilts.
